Every great matchday begins long before the first whistle.
Whether you’re making your first trip to Kota Bharu or
returning to a ground you’ve known for years, here’s
everything you need to prepare for a day of football
at Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium.
Find your way. Take your place. Feel the atmosphere.
The rest is football.
Right in the heart of Kota Bharu, Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium stands among the familiar streets and everyday bustle of the city.
Unlike stadiums tucked away on the outskirts, this ground is woven into the life of its surroundings. On matchday, the journey itself becomes part of the occasion.
You’ll know you’re getting close when the streets begin to fill with football shirts, familiar faces and conversations about the game ahead.

Kelantan, Malaysia
Whether you’re travelling across town or making the journey from further afield, a little planning goes a long way.
Allow extra time on matchdays. Roads around the stadium may become busier as supporters make their way towards the ground, especially as kick-off approaches.
Set your navigation for Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium in Kota Bharu. Plan your parking before arriving, follow local traffic directions and allow time to walk to your entrance.
A convenient option if you’d rather skip the search for parking. Agree on a safe drop-off point and check for temporary road restrictions before your journey.
Travelling by public transport? Check the latest local routes and services before setting off, particularly for evening matches.
Nothing quite matches the feeling of walking into a stadium as the anticipation begins to build. Here’s a simple way to make the most of your visit.
Confirm the match date, kick-off time and venue through the club’s latest announcements. Fixtures can change, so check again before travelling.
Follow the official ticketing information for your chosen match. Keep your ticket or booking confirmation ready and check your assigned seating section, if applicable.
Aim to arrive around 45–60 minutes before kick-off as a planning buffer, not an official gate-opening time. Allow longer for major fixtures or busy roads.
Check the gate and section information issued for your ticket. Follow matchday signage and directions from stadium personnel.
Find your place, watch the players warm up and enjoy the build-up. When the whistle finally blows, you’re part of the atmosphere.
The match lasts ninety minutes. The memories can stay with you for a lifetime.
Your ticket is your starting point for a smooth arrival. Different matches may have different ticket categories, seating arrangements and entry instructions.
Before leaving home, make sure you know which match you’re attending, where your section is located and which entrance you’re expected to use.
If you have received an electronic ticket, keep it accessible on your device. Make sure your phone has enough battery and that any required QR code can be displayed clearly.
Tickets should be obtained through channels announced by the club or event organiser. Availability at the stadium on matchday should not be assumed.
For visitors requiring accessible entry, wheelchair accommodation or other assistance, contact the match organiser ahead of time to confirm the available arrangements.
The little things make a difference. A few simple preparations can help you focus on what matters most: enjoying the football.
To understand football in Kelantan, you have to experience it where the people live and breathe it.
Walk through Kota Bharu on a matchday and you’ll find that the occasion doesn’t belong to the stadium alone. It’s in the conversation at the roadside stall, the shirts worn around town and the excitement shared between friends and families.
Make time to enjoy the local atmosphere. There’s always something special about a place where football feels so close to everyday life.
And when you finally reach the ground, there’s only one thing left to do.
Take your place. And let the football begin.
As a general recommendation, allow approximately 45–60 minutes before kick-off, especially for a busy match. Actual gate-opening times vary, so always check the latest event information.
Ticket sales arrangements depend on the match organiser. Check official KCFC announcements for authorised sellers and purchase channels. Tickets may not be available at the venue on matchday.
Parking arrangements and availability can change depending on the event. Check local signage, follow traffic instructions and consider arriving early or using a drop-off service. Do not assume parking is guaranteed.
Permitted items and bag restrictions are set by the venue or event organiser. Check the latest matchday instructions before packing. Security checks may be conducted at entry points.
Weather in Kelantan can be unpredictable. Check the forecast before travelling, dress appropriately and consider compact rain protection if allowed by the event’s entry rules.
Visitors who require accessible seating, step-free entry or other assistance should contact the match organiser in advance to confirm current facilities, entrances and arrangements.
Access outside scheduled events depends on stadium management and any activities taking place. A visit to the stadium grounds does not guarantee access to the pitch or spectator areas.
Some come for the football. Some come
for the atmosphere. Others return
because this ground has always
felt like home.
Whatever brings you to Kota Bharu,
we hope the experience gives you
a reason to come back.
See you at Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium.
Every stadium has a story. But it’s the
moments within its walls that make it
unforgettable.
Discover the ground, understand the
spectator experience and find the
information you need to make the most
of your time at Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium.
From the stands to the pitch, this is
where Kota Bharu comes together for football.
In the heart of Kota Bharu stands one of the most recognisable football grounds in Kelantan.
Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium has welcomed generations of players, supporters and visitors since its first recorded football match in 1967.
The stadium’s open-air setting, surrounding stands and central location have helped shape an atmosphere closely connected to the city around it.
While its facilities have evolved over the decades, the identity of the ground remains rooted in its people.
A football stadium is more than the pitch. It’s the stands that carry the voices, the facilities that support the game and the spaces where thousands of experiences unfold.
Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium has undergone several improvements over the years, including upgrades to its lighting, spectator facilities and playing surface.
Viewing areas surround the football pitch, bringing supporters close to the action. Available sections depend on the event.
The stadium’s grandstand has received improvements to spectator seating and access. Availability is subject to ticket allocation.
Floodlight upgrades have helped support evening football and modern competition requirements.
Spectator restroom facilities were included in previous stadium upgrades. Follow venue directions to locate available facilities.
The football pitch underwent restoration work in 2024 as part of the stadium’s continuing maintenance.
The venue may accommodate different sporting and public activities. Areas available to visitors depend on the event configuration.
Every seat brings a different perspective. Some visitors come to follow every movement on the pitch. Others come for the chants, the atmosphere and the energy that can only be felt inside a football ground.
Wherever you take your place, understanding a few basic details can help make the experience more comfortable.
Seating arrangements depend on the event and ticket type. Check your allocated section and follow instructions for the designated spectator area.
As an outdoor stadium, parts of the spectator area may be exposed to sunshine or rain. Consider the forecast before arriving.
Keep aisles, stairways and circulation areas clear. Allow fellow spectators space to move safely to and from their seats.
Expect the sounds and excitement of live football. Cheer for your team, celebrate the occasion and respect those around you.
A football ground is made of concrete and steel. Its soul comes from the people who fill it.
Enjoying the game is easier when you know what to expect. Some visitor amenities and services may vary according to the match or event.
The availability of vendors, prayer areas, accessible services and other amenities is not guaranteed for every event. Please refer to the latest official venue or event information.
A stadium belongs to the memories of everyone who visits it. Players, families, lifelong supporters and first-time visitors all share the same space.
Taking care of the venue is a simple way to respect both its history and the people around you.
Dispose of waste responsibly and leave your seating area tidy after the event.
Help preserve the seating, signs, restrooms and shared facilities for future visitors.
Enjoy the atmosphere without compromising the comfort or safety of fellow spectators.
Yes. It is an outdoor football stadium. Spectator exposure to sun or rain depends on the seating area and weather conditions.
Published reports have cited a capacity of approximately 30,000. However, usable capacity may vary according to the event configuration, safety requirements and sections made available.
No assumption should be made that every spectator section has overhead weather protection. If covered seating is important, confirm the relevant section before purchasing your ticket.
Refreshment arrangements can differ by event. Check the organiser’s information for vendors, permitted food and drinks, and any restrictions.
Public spectator restrooms are part of the stadium’s facilities and have previously undergone upgrading. Ask venue personnel to locate those available for your event.
Non-event access depends on stadium management and scheduled activities. Public access to the pitch, stands and operational areas should not be assumed.
The stadium has also been used for sporting and public events. Venue availability, permitted activities and booking conditions must be confirmed with the stadium operator.
Generations have walked through
these grounds with different
hopes, different stories and
the same anticipation.
The pitch may be the centre
of attention, but it is the
people in the stands who
make the occasion unforgettable.

Every supporter arrives with a different story. Some have travelled across Kelantan. Others have come from much further away.
But beyond the entrances, the ticket checks and the walk towards the stands, there’s something we all come for.
Football. Community. And the feeling of being home.
More than a football ground. For generations, Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium has stood at the heart of Kota Bharu — a place where victories were celebrated, defeats were deeply felt, and the voices of Kelantan came together as one.
The story of the stadium began long before the structure we know today existed. The site had already been used for football as early as 1946, following the establishment of the Kelantan Amateur Football Association.
Known then as Padang KAFA, it was a much simpler place. There were no towering floodlights, modern seating or giant screens. There was only a pitch, the players and the people who came because they loved the game.
From those modest beginnings, football slowly grew into something larger. Matches became meeting points. Players became local heroes. Memories began passing from one generation to the next.
By 1965, the Kelantan State Government began developing the site into a proper stadium that could serve football, sport and public recreation.
On 14 April 1967, Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium hosted its first football match, with Kelantan facing Pahang in the Piala Emas Raja-Raja.
Parts of the stadium were still under development at the time, but history had already begun.
Work continued in the years that followed, including improvements to seating and lighting. By 1970, funding had been approved for floodlights, allowing Kota Bharu to experience more football under the night sky.
A stadium does not need to be perfect before it begins creating history.
One of the defining qualities of Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium is its location. It does not sit far beyond the life of the city. It stands close to the rhythm of Kota Bharu itself.
On matchday, the journey towards the stadium becomes part of the occasion. Roads grow busier. Food stalls fill. Shirts appear everywhere. Conversations turn to the starting eleven, the striker, the defence and the result that might come later that night.
The closer supporters get to the ground, the louder everything becomes.
Before a player even touches the ball, the match has already begun outside the gates.
That relationship between the stadium, the team and its supporters is what gave rise to the expression “gelanggang keramat” — a revered home ground whose identity is shaped as much by its people as by its concrete and steel.
For a younger generation, Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium is perhaps most vividly remembered through the rise of Kelantan football during the late 2000s and early 2010s.
This was the era in which The Red Warriors grew into a national football phenomenon.
Red filled the stands. Crowds arrived in huge numbers. Visiting Kota Bharu became one of the most demanding away fixtures in Malaysian football.
The stadium was already decades old, but during those nights it felt young again.
Kelantan’s Malaysia Cup success in 2010 became one of the defining moments of that generation. Although major finals were often played away from Kota Bharu, the road towards those nights was built through match after match at Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium.
This was where confidence grew. Where momentum was built. Where visiting teams faced not only eleven players, but a stadium that seemed to move with the home side.
As the stadium grew older, renovation became inevitable. Different phases of upgrading followed as its facilities adapted to the needs of modern football.
A major improvement programme in 2021–2022 included new floodlights, improvements to dressing rooms, public facilities, access routes and additional seating.
There was something symbolic about replacing the old floodlights. They had witnessed generations of football — players making their debuts, careers reaching their final chapters, young supporters growing older and eventually returning with children of their own.
The equipment changed. The memories remained.
In 2024, further restoration work focused on essential infrastructure including drainage, piping, electrical systems and the playing surface.
During the works, football had to temporarily move elsewhere.
It was another reminder that a team can play on many pitches — but not every pitch feels like home.
Competitive football returned to Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium in 2025, once again bringing crowds, colour and noise back into the heart of Kota Bharu.
The site was already being used for football following the establishment of the Kelantan Amateur Football Association.
Development begins on a proper stadium for football, sport and public recreation.
On 14 April, Kelantan faces Pahang in the Piala Emas Raja-Raja — the stadium’s first football match.
Funding is approved for floodlights, bringing more night football to Kota Bharu.
One of the stadium’s most memorable early Malaysia Cup results.
Kelantan football experiences a major resurgence and the stadium becomes synonymous with packed stands and a fierce home atmosphere.
Kelantan wins the Malaysia Cup during one of the most celebrated periods in the state’s modern football history.
New floodlights, improved dressing rooms, upgraded public facilities and additional seating form part of a major improvement programme.
Repairs focus on drainage, piping, electrical systems and restoration of the playing surface.
Competitive football returns following restoration works, bringing matchday noise back to Kota Bharu.
Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium has watched players arrive and leave, teams rise and fall, supporters grow older and new voices take their place in the stands.
As long as those voices continue to return, the story is not finished.
This is not simply where we play. This is home.
